Time with Boys
Here's my top list of why hanging out with my boys (and these are my real sons, not my homies) is so great:
1. They're fairly quiet on the drive up to the ski hill.
2. They still think I can snowboard well and I can still keep up with them.
3. Their excitement is infectious and refreshing.
4. They don't complain about anything (most of the time).
5. They love to find powder stashes and boarding in the trees. I mean, together we formed the K-Pow Mafia, our K[emper] Pow[der] hunting snowboard crew.

Last season I introduced my sons to snowboarding through an instructional program at the local mountain. Many moons ago I taught a friend or two how to snowboard but we all know how it goes sometimes when parents work to teach their kids. The level of instruction they received seemed impresseive to me as well as how fast they became capable of riding all over the mountain on their own. Their confidence grew along side my excitement. I mean, before they'd tried the sport I had to remember that there was a chance they weren't even going to like snowboarding, and then what on earth would I do with them to bond over the winter months? Well I got lucky and they found at least an affectionate liking of snowboarding if not a love.
They began this season with some more lessons: a private one and then two more in small groups with folks double and probably triple their ages (they're 12 and 13 years old). I didn't copter around their lesssons at all so I don't know what it was out like there, but seeing how they board I know they practiced the hard skills to varying degrees with their instructors. C'est la vie but they get down the hill at an acceptable rate although they have some style points to be improved on. The bottom line is that after a mere two seasons my young sons have given me something to get super excited about when the snow starts coming down. They both got around 30 days on the slopes this season and I'm starting to think that my days that I can keep up with them are truly numbered-but believe me when I say I'll treasure each one!
